K.O. v. Jett

In 2021, Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Disability Law Center filed a federal class action lawsuit on behalf of two students — and those similarly classed — contending their special education services were cut short in violation of federal law. The Minnesota Department of Education maintained it was right to end instruction in July of a student’s 21st year. Legal Aid contended the students were entitled to all school days leading up to their 22nd birthday. Honorable Patrick J. Schiltz, United States District Judge for the District of Minnesota decided in favor of Legal Aid’s clients.
