Sutherland named Director of Minnesota Disability Law Center at Mid-MN Legal Aid

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (Minneapolis, Minn.) — Executive Director Milo Mumgaard of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid is pleased to share that Eren Sutherland (they/them) has been promoted to Director of the organization’s Minnesota Disability Law Center (MDLC).

“Highly regarded among colleagues and clients,” Mumgaard says, it was clear in considering all candidates for the post that, “Eren is the right person for this job in this critical moment, as people with disabilities see an increasing erosion of basic legal rights and the elimination of supportive benefits and programs almost every day. Sutherland — who joined Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in 2015, first as an immigration attorney, later ascending to their most recent role of supervising attorney with MDLC — shares in their bio, “I am deeply grateful to all the amazing attorneys, advocates, and staff who have made MDLC the organization it is today. I look forward to MDLC’s next chapter of systemic advocacy to improve the lives and protect the rights of people with disabilities in Minnesota.”

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid is Minnesota’s federally designated “Protection & Advocacy” agency. The organization’s Minnesota Disability Law Center, now led by Sutherland, carries out those P&A responsibilities, focusing on both the institutional care provided to people with disabilities and full scope of advocacy services for all people with disabilities in Minnesota.
