Public Benefits
Legal Aid’s public benefits attorneys and staff help people who rely on cash, food and medical assistance programs, when their benefits are denied, terminated or reduced.
When this happens, we can explain:
- Eligibility requirements for getting benefits
- How amounts are determined
We can also:
- Contact the county to learn what happened in order to fix errors.
- Represent clients at appeal hearings like SSI or UI hearings.
Some of the programs we help with include:
- General Assistance
- Medical Assistance
- MinnesotaCare
- Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
- Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA)
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
- SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- Unemployment
