Funding cuts threaten MN Disability Law Center
White House budget, leaked memo reveal intent to end P&As
The Minnesota Disability Law Center of Legal Aid is the state’s Protection & Advocacy agency. Every state has one — for now. But a White House FY 2026 budget report and leaked memo revealed that Protection & Advocacy agencies across the nation are slated to lose federal funding.
Funding cuts could end our ability to:
• Help clients get disability services.
• Ensure protections provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
• Pursue rights and fair treatment for kids with disabilities in our schools.
But not, if you take action.

Legal Aid Executive Director Milo Mumgaard sat down with Almanac’s Cathy Wurzer and Eric Eskola of Twin Cities Public Television to talk about what’s at stake.
“If you, alone, try to hold a note too long, you will lose your breath. You sputter, cough and are unable to continue. But choirs can hold notes seemingly forever…because in a choir when someone takes a breath, someone else sings. And like this, people pause and start and remain and leave but the sound keeps going.”
