FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (St. Cloud, Minn.) — Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in St. Cloud is set to deliver free legal services to a greater number of clients than before, thanks to funding from the Central Minnesota Council on Aging.

This infusion of dollars for its senior law unit is dedicated to helping residents, 60 years of age and older, with legal services. Practice areas such as public benefits law, housing law, family law and consumer law see a wide range of cases.

Legal Assistant Pam Manthei says, “This funding will go a long way in helping our older, vulnerable neighbors with public benefits issues, such as accessing food support, Medicare and Social Security. In our housing practice, this means help with evictions and lockouts. And when it comes to family law, we can help resolve issues related to domestic abuse, nursing home problems and wills, powers of attorney and health care directives.”

She adds, “Consumer law, which can mean providing help with creditors and debt collection, is another legal practice area Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid can address. However, Manthei makes clear, “Our services only extend to civil legal aid. So, it’s important to know, we DO NOT provide legal help for criminal matters or real estate transactions.
