Statement: We uphold every legal protection in place for our immigrant neighbors — Mid-MN Legal Aid

Father and mother face their toddler-age child as they hold him. All are smiling. Mother is wearing a yellow hijab. A field of yellow flowers in the background on a sunny day.

STATEMENT: (Minneapolis, Minn.) — Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid stands with our immigrant neighbors and with all the protections the law affords them. While we understand the concerns raised by the announcement to end TPS for Somalis in Minnesota, we can say that currently, the law still provides Temporary Protected Status for all Somalis in the United States.

“The law also does not allow for the government to take away TPS designation for Somalis in the U.S., state by state. While we wait for the Department of Homeland Security to evaluate TPS for Somalis, now is a great time to speak to an immigration attorney about your legal options.”
