Our two requirements are that you be an attorney in good standing and admitted to the bar (of any state) and that you represent your pro bono clients with the same degree of professionalism that you would with any other client.
Volunteer paralegals and legal assistants are invaluable additions to a pro bono team. Volunteers provide needed assistance in a number of capacities, including interviewing client, developing legal fact sheets, assisting attorneys in the development of motion documents, providing guidance on e-filing and notarizing.
Student volunteers are an instrumental part of the staffed and pro bono attorney programs at MMLA. Opportunities for law clerks involve in office placement as well off site work. Some projects for student volunteers include giving know your rights based presentations, speaking with clients at legal workshops, updating client focused legal materials, and developing legal research.
