Home Buyer Alert:  Contract for Deed

Legal Aid has been fighting hard to help those harmed by predatory contracts for deed. As early as 2009, we began seeing problems with the use of these contracts among low-income homeowners in areas already hit hard by foreclosures. We raised the alarm and began representing dozens of homeowners in court proceedings while at the same time, pursuing policy changes to better protect contract for deed purchasers. Our efforts are beginning to show returns, as the Star Tribune and other media help focus public attention on the problems and on Legal Aid’s proposed solutions.
