Associates Building the future

Associates represent the future of Legal Aid funding. Started in 2003 by a group of associates in Hennepin County, the One Hour of Sharing Associates’ Campaign has grown from $18,579 raised in its inaugural year to a record $106,388 in 2009 — helping countless Legal Aid clients along the way. The Associates’ Campaign works by establishing teams of solicitors in law firms who reach their associates, secure donations and raise awareness of Legal Aid in their firms. They exceeded the 2014 goal and have raised $91,000 for the campaign.

Individuals A personal commitment

If you think you need to be part of a large practice to get involved in The Fund, think again. Last year, the Individual One Hour of Sharing Campaign (donations less than $1,000) raised over $93,000 from more than 300 individuals for Legal Aid. In fact, some individuals have consistently given to Legal Aid for over 25 years. If career and family obligations keep you from doing as much pro bono work as you’d like, The Fund is a convenient way to do good work by supporting good work. In fact, the Individual Campaign helps lawyers fulfill their professional responsibility under the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 6.1 to contribute financial support to organizations that provide legal services to persons of limited means.

Law Firms Making giving part of the culture

The Law Firm Campaign is at the heart of One Hour of Sharing, and gives law firms an opportunity to express their commitment to “Justice for All.” In 2014, 80 firms contributed more than $488,000 to The Fund, providing invaluable access to the legal system for Minnesotans lacking the necessary monetary and physical resources to do so on their own.

Legal Aid is grateful for the 29 firms supporting The Fund at the level of $300 per lawyer, and the 20 firms contributing $200 per lawyer.
