Stearns County Domestic Violence Court Project
The Stearns County Domestic Violence Partnership brings county attorneys, Legal Aid attorneys, judges, public defenders, law enforcement officials, human services, and Anna Marie’s Shelter together to offer a powerful solution to combat domestic violence.
Recently the Stearns County Domestic Violence Partnership received both national and local recognition. It was chosen by the Association of Minnesota Counties to receive the 2012 AMC County Achievement Award. In addition, the partnership was named by the national Association of Prosecuting Attorneys as one of ten innovations to be recognized at the 2013 Justice Innovations Conference.
An example of this partnership in action:
Thanks to this partnership, mothers in need can get help. For example, when Julie Miessen needed to stop a man who violated an order for protection against her and her child, she called the police. Through the relationship with the project and local police, her phone call put her and her children’s safety into the hands of the Stearns County Domestic Violence Partnership. Ms Miessen was able to get access to the safety her family needed because of the collaboration and quick actions taken by this partnership.
